Robert is a partner in RK’s Dispute Resolution Group. He has more than 15 years’ experience advising on a variety of shipping and commercial disputes both in the English High Court and in arbitration.
For many years Robert, together with Mike Lax, was heavily involved in the long running Fiona Trust litigation dealing with claims totalling over $800 million and which included a six month trial in the High Court as well as its satellite litigation including a successful claim on a cross undertaking for damages for over US$70 million. Other reported cases he has been involved with include Novoship UK Limited v Mikhaylyuk & Ors and its appeal, [2012] EWHC 1352 Comm; [2014] EWCA 908 and BP Oil International Ltd v Target Shipping Ltd [2013] EWCA Civ 196. More recently he has been involved in a multi-million dollar High Court claim for damages arising under a contract of affreightment.
Robert also has acted in arbitration proceedings under the LMAA, LCIA and UNCITRAL rules in relation to a variety of charterparty and other contractual disputes.
Robert is recognised in The Legal 500, UK edition (2023) as being “very knowledgeable in shipping litigation, leaves no stone unturned in his investigations and preparation for trial, and provides prompt and very clear advice”.
