James Walton is a partner and head of RK’s Finance, Insolvency & Restructuring Groups. With over 20 years of post-qualification experience, James specialises in acting on all matters relating to distressed lending, restructuring and corporate insolvency. His clients include lenders, debt funds, corporates, company directors, insolvency practitioners and private equity funds.
James has extensive experience in working on NPL portfolios and advising lenders on distressed loan situations, working with LPA Receivers and Insolvency Practitioners on restructuring and security enforcement strategies, dealing with business rescue and reconstruction, business and asset disposals and acquisitions, advising on pre-packs, administrations, CVA’s and liquidations, as well as contentious routes of recovery including directors’ misfeasance, wrongful and fraudulent trading actions.
His finance practice focuses on advising lenders and borrowers on all forms of finance transaction, including real estate finance, asset finance, debt sales and acquisitions, both in relation to distressed and non-distressed situations. James has particular knowledge and experience of the evolving litigation funding market, advising and working with funders on the financing of disputes.
James’ commercial approach to problem solving is praised by clients, with Legal 500 describing him as “very practical and experienced”. He is an Associate Member of NARA (The Association of Property and Fixed Charge Receivers) and an Associate Member of R3 (The Association of Business Recovery Professionals) and regularly speaks at seminars and client workshops on issues related to his practice areas.
